I suppose you’re wondering why I asked you here.

After years of writing only for work or my personal journal, I want to start writing for public consumption. I need to develop my style and practice research, but I’m overwhelmed by potential topics and tend to overthink when I write about things that are more personal. Because I always get the most energy from bouncing ideas around with my friends, I created this form in hopes of soliciting inspiration and much-needed direction!

So tell me: what should I write about?

The objective of this exercise is to get out of my own head and hopefully create articles that people enjoy reading. (Maybe even things that are fun and not insanely depressing? Wild idea.) This isn’t purely creative writing - my models are writers like Mary Roach and Sarah Vowell who infuse their nonfiction narratives with their personal humor while still conveying factual information. I’ll start off with blog-length posts, so any topic narrower than, say, “whales” or “police brutality” (to pick some at random) is welcome.

Though I can’t promise to use every idea, I will greatly appreciate any you submit.  Thanks so much for your support!
